Introduction

The Boer Goat is indigenous breed of South Africa. In the mid-1900s where it was developed and bred by selection & sound breeding practices from native African boer goats. The word Boer in Dutch means farm so the Boer Goat was originally known as the “farmer’s goat”. Worldwide Boer Goats are bred for Meat purpose as it helps in productive results such as weight gain, meat quality, health benefits, etc.

The Beginning

In the early 90’s Boer Goat was introduced in India through embryo transplantation by Padmashree B V Nimbkar Sir, with his rigorous and continuous follow ups the breed spreads all over India and in neighboring countries too. Number of other Breeders has been working on improving the genetics for last few years. These Breeders though mostly untrained geneticists, managed with distinction to still apply the correct genetic principles. In 2021 small group of breeders come up with an idea of society formation. With their collective efforts, so much of hustles & bustles manage to bring more Boer Breeders under one roof. Then finally all these breeders succeeded in forming first Boer breeders Association of India. The Boer Goat Breeders’ Association (BGBA), India, has officially been formed on 4th October 2021. BGBA is an industry body producing Knowledge Resources, providing Training and developing information products.
